Petar Jovanov is a developing 21st-century music educator dedicated to creating inclusive, culturally rich, and engaging learning experiences for young people. Currently completing a Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Sydney, his aim is to build classroom environments where students feel valued, inspired, and confident to explore their own musical identities. His teaching philosophy centres on the belief that every student can find their musical voice when learning is meaningful, creative, and connected to the world around them.
Petar holds a Doctor of Creative Arts and a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from Western Sydney University, and his artistic background strongly influences the learning experiences he designs. As an associate artist with the Australian Music Centre, he draws on years of experience in composition, world music practice, and digital music creation to offer students authentic, hands-on opportunities to engage with sound.
His cross-cultural compositional work—rooted in Macedonian folk influences, irregular rhythmic structures, and multimedia processes—enhances his ability to teach global music traditions and contemporary sound practices. Having worked across film, orchestral recording, and international festival settings, Petar brings real-world musical insight into his pedagogy.
As a teacher, he is passionate about nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong engagement with music in all its forms.
